For Organizations

Our Organization Training Program equips professionals in any line of work with specialized communication skills through these workshops, enabling them to motivate and engage their clients in new and more productive ways. We work with various organizations that serve communities in need. Training is available for professionals in social service agencies and organizations. The Relationship Foundation has provided training and resources to mental health providers, social workers, and prison counselors. Our guidebook has found its way into domestic violence shelters, mental health clinics, and drug rehab centers, including a victim advocacy center at an army base in Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

The Relationship Foundation guide book

Our Facilitator Guidebook introduces a communication skill set called ‘Nonviolent Communication (NVC),’ developed by clinical psychologist Marshall Rosenberg, Ph.D. This work is a key component of the life-skills introduced in this curriculum. The guidebook builds a safety net for participants who exist in environments that could potentially compromise their mental, emotional, and physical health.

The Guidebook is intended for facilitators to use while leading group discussions, The Guidebook is intended for group leaders and facilitators to use while leading group discussions and activities. There are pages that can be reproduced for participant use during class and as homework. Each facilitator needs only one copy. A digital zip file of the reproducible handouts is emailed to the facilitator after the order is placed.

There are 12 sessions in this guidebook, which include lectures, videos, exercises, and other resources that facilitators can use in the groups and individually with participants . The curriculum also includes journal assignments, which encourage participants to explore and reflect on the world of relationships; in so doing, they will find and develop their own unique outlooks. This exercise gives participants an opportunity to cultivate their critical thinking. Because the journals can be submitted for facilitator review, they provide insights into their participants’ perspectives on relationships and enhance greater personal connection.

The assignments, projects, and exercises in each of the sessions teach communication skills, critical thinking, self-awareness, and empathy. Participants will learn and practice how to respectfully communicate their needs and feelings without blame or judgment, and they will learn to listen empathically. Participants can use these skills to develop thriving and fulfilling relationships at school, at home, and in their everyday lives. These skills are essential, especially for those who struggle to communicate the needs they value, and their associated feelings. This work helps to counteract erratic behavior, bullying, abuse, and low self-esteem.

The guidebook includes, but is not limited to:

  • The NVC Communication skill set
  • Empathic listening practices
  • Understanding and preventing bullying
  • Examining self-awareness and self-care
  • Identifying and avoiding unhealthy relationships
  • Defining healthy boundaries
  • The impact of communication technology on relationships
  •

Professional Development

We recommend combining live or remote workshops along with our curriculum in order to implement the principles into the classroom. However, the professional development trainings alone can make an impact on educators’ approach to classroom management.
